As you read this, I am winging my way to Maui for a week with my daughter Dr. Lexi Welanetz and best friend Mary Olsen Kelly. We will be staying in a glorious three-bedroom cottage (Mana House), an AirBnb on the art compound of renowned artist Tom Sewell and his wife Michelle. Meeting Tom in 1983 changed our lives completely! Taking us under his wing, he insisted my husband Paul von Welanetz and I join the meetings of Impact Studios at 6 am every morning at a church in Hollywood. It was there we were invited to join a group of 80 luminaries and Citizen Diplomats who traveled into the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War, where we were sparked to leave our career in the culinary world and start a weekly breakfast club called the "Inside Edge." I'm also thrilled to share that during this journey, I will be meeting Dawna Markova in person for the first time.
