Dear Friend, Welcome to the May edition of Tea With Diana, and what a May it is. Before I share my news, a small but important note: Tea With Diana, this monthly letter we have shared together for so long, is not going anywhere. It will continue to arrive in your inbox each month, just as it always has, carrying stories, reflections, and whatever is most alive in my world. • • • What I am announcing today is something altogether new: a separate series living on a platform called Substack, where deeper, more expansive essays will find their home. It is free to read, but it does require its own subscription, a simple click that brings my writing directly to you every two weeks. Think of “Tea With Diana” as our monthly cup together, warm and familiar. Think of the Substack series as the longer conversation we sit down for when there is more to say and more time to say it. • • • Something new is being born, and I want you to be the very first to know. For eighty-five years I have been gathering experiences, asking questions, losing people I loved beyond measure, building communities from nothing, cooking feasts and writing books and standing on stages and learning, over and over again, that the most important thing I will ever do is pay exquisite attention to this extraordinary, irreplaceable life I have been given. Now I am putting all of it into one place. I am calling it "Your Life as a Work of Art," and it is the deepest, most personal, most fully realized writing I have ever offered to the world. New essays will arrive every two weeks, each one an invitation to see your own life more beautifully than you have seen it before. Each essay explores one of the great themes I have carried all my life: the seasons of a life fully lived, the art of paying attention, the practice of reflection, the astonishing grace of transcendence, the harvest of love gathered around tables and in communities and in the quiet of your own most honest mornings. I will share stories I have never written before. The prayer that changed everything for Paul and me. The Soviet Union journey that revealed our true purpose. The Thanksgivings and the Vision Parties and the tables full of people telling each other what they loved about them. The poems I have memorized and carried in my heart like lanterns. The questions that have cracked me open and the ones that have put me back together. And woven through every essay, an invitation for you. A question to carry. A practice to try. A gentle nudge toward the canvas of your own life, and the full, luminous palette that is waiting for you there. These are not essays about cooking, though there will be fudge. It is not even a series about writing, though words are the medium in which I live and breathe. It is a series about the art of being alive. The founding essay is already waiting for you there today, on this luminous first day of May. Please visit and subscribe:
